AEO for SaaS is about getting ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews to cite and recommend your product when buyers ask questions, by structuring your content, product facts and third-party presence so AI tools can find and trust them.

Across 53 B2B SaaS brands we tracked for eight months, AI engines sent 8.7% of website traffic and organic search sent 91.3%. So AEO sits on top of your SEO, and it’s still worth the work, because 88% of the people who arrive from AI aren’t looking for a brand yet and are still deciding which tools to put on their shortlist.

## Summary of the 6 Steps of AEO for SaaS

- Step 1: Find the questions your buyers ask AI tools and decide which engines to check first.
- Step 2: Check what AI tools say about you today, and who they cite instead.
- Step 3: Let AI crawlers in and make sure your important pages are readable.
- Step 4: Write answer-first pages, starting with your bottom-of-the-funnel pages.
- Step 5: Get your product described the same way on the sites AI tools trust.
- Step 6: Measure how often you’re mentioned and how much pipeline it brings in.

## What Is AEO for SaaS?

AEO for SaaS, also called answer engine optimization for SaaS or SaaS AI search optimization, covers everything a software company does to show up inside AI answers, from the way its pages are written to what review sites and forums say about it.

In practice it comes down to five things:

- **Answer-first content:** a direct answer in the first lines of each section, which an AI tool can lift as it is.
- **Buyer prompts:** writing for the full questions buyers type into AI tools, like “best CRM for a 10-person sales team”, instead of short keywords.
- **Technical readability:** AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt, the main content in the HTML, and schema on the pages that matter.
- **Consensus across other sites:** the same product name, category, pricing and use cases on G2, Capterra, Reddit, listicles and partner pages.
- **AI share of voice:** tracking how often AI tools mention you when your buyers ask their questions.

Google’s own [AI optimization guidance](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide) says that appearing in its AI features “is still SEO”, and that’s how we treat it too: the same work, with a few additions on top.

## Is AEO Worth It for a SaaS Company?

AEO for SaaS companies is worth it as an addition to SEO, because buyers now build their shortlists inside AI answers, and the AI traffic that does reach your site comes mostly from people who haven’t picked a brand yet.

[Here’s what we saw across those 53 B2B SaaS brands over eight months](https://piperocket.digital/research/ai-seo-statistics/):

| Metric | Organic search | AI engines |
|------------------------------------|----------------|------------|
| Share of total traffic | 91.3% | 8.7% |
| Leads (8 months) | 37 times more | n/a |
| Session‑to‑lead rate | 0.92% | 0.26% |
| Lead‑to‑SQL rate | 33.3% | 28.6% |
| Sessions with brand intent | 28.1% | 11.8% |
| Bottom‑of‑funnel share of sessions | 41% | 44% |

So AI is still the smaller channel, and organic converts better. These are the reasons it’s still worth working on.

### Buyers Build Their Shortlist Inside AI Answers

Think about how someone picks a CRM now. They ask ChatGPT something like “what’s the best CRM for a 10-person sales team?”, get three to five names back, and that’s the list they go and book demos with. So if you’re not one of those names, you’ve lost that buyer before your sales team even hears about them.

### Most AI Visitors Haven’t Picked a Brand Yet

Most people asking AI tools about software aren’t looking for you by name. They’re asking which tool fits their team or their problem, so they’re still open to anyone on the list, and that’s exactly when you want to be in the answer, because if you aren’t, a competitor will be.

### AI Visitors Arrive Ready to Compare Tools

When someone does click through from an AI answer, the AI has usually explained the problem and laid out the options for them already. So they tend to skip the “what is” guides and go straight to your pricing or comparison pages to check whether you fit, and that puts them a lot closer to booking a demo.

### Comparison Questions Are Where You Win or Lose

Buyers ask AI tools things like “\[your product] vs \[competitor]” or “\[competitor] alternatives” all the time, and the answer usually picks a winner. If the page it quotes is your competitor’s comparison page, or a listicle you’re missing from, the buyer only ever hears their side of the story.

### When AEO Can Wait

Now, if Google still can’t index half your site, or you don’t have pricing, comparison or alternatives pages yet, I’d sort those out first. I also wouldn’t pull budget out of SEO to pay for AEO, since AI tools mostly decide who to cite using the same signals that get you ranked on Google anyway.

And if you’d like to put a number on it before you decide, our [AEO ROI calculator](https://piperocket.digital/tools/aeo-roi-calculator/) models how AI citations turn into visits, pipeline and ARR for your own traffic.

## How Is AEO Different From SEO and GEO?

For SaaS, SEO gets your pages ranked in Google’s results, whereas AEO gets your product cited inside AI answers, and GEO is another name for the same work, so the two overlap in almost everything.

| | SEO | AEO and GEO |
|--------------------|----------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Goal | Rank pages and earn clicks | Get your product cited and recommended inside AI answers |
| Where you show up | Google and Bing results | AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini |
| What gets picked | A whole page | A passage, table or list from a page, and your brand from sources the AI trusts |
| Strongest signals | Relevance, links and on‑page SEO | The same, plus answer‑first structure, third‑party mentions and consistent product facts |
| How you measure it | Rankings and clicks | Share of voice, AI referrals and the pipeline they bring in |

You’ll see AEO used more often when people talk about Google’s AI Overviews and GEO more often for ChatGPT and Perplexity, but the work behind both is the same, so the steps for AEO for SaaS below cover all of them.

## What Tools Do You Need for AEO for SaaS?

For AEO for SaaS, you need the AI tools themselves for manual checks, Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and GA4 for your own data, an AI visibility tracker like Peec AI, Otterly or Profound, Google’s Rich Results Test for schema, and your G2 and Capterra profiles.

I’ve tested more than 40 AI monitoring tools, and I’d treat every visibility score as an estimate, because the trackers run their own prompts through the models instead of seeing what real buyers asked.

| Tool | Pricing (checked Oct 2026) | Helps you to | Alternatives |

## How to Do AEO for SaaS in 6 Steps

To do AEO for SaaS, find the prompts your buyers ask AI, check what AI says about you today, let AI crawlers in, write answer-first pages, build consensus on the sites AI trusts, and measure both visibility and pipeline.

The first two steps show you where you stand, and the last four change it.

| Step | What you do | Example (a CRM competing with Pipedrive) | Tools needed | Time needed |
|--------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------|
| 1\. Find the prompts your buyers ask AI | List buyer questions by funnel stage | “best CRM for a 10‑person sales team” goes on the list as a BOFU prompt | Sales calls, G2 reviews, Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools | 2 hours |
| 2\. Check what AI says about you today | Run the prompts, note who’s named and which sources are cited | Google’s AI Overview names Pipedrive and HubSpot, and cites a listicle, a vendor blog and a YouTube review | ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google, GA4 | 2 hours |
| 3\. Let AI crawlers in and make pages readable | Check robots.txt, content in the HTML and schema | robots.txt lets OAI‑SearchBot and ClaudeBot in, and the pricing table shows up in the page source | robots.txt, Rich Results Test | 30 minutes |
| 4\. Write answer‑first pages for buyer questions | Rewrite BOFU pages with direct answers, tables and FAQs | The Pipedrive alternatives page opens with a 50‑word answer and a pricing table | Your CMS, Search Console | Days to weeks, depending on scale |
| 5\. Build consensus across the sites AI trusts | Update review profiles, get into listicles, fix product facts | Ask 10 customers for G2 reviews and pitch the listicles the AI Overview cited | G2, Capterra, Reddit | 1‑2 days, and 1‑2 weeks for listicles |
| 6\. Measure AI visibility and pipeline | Track mentions, AI sessions and pipeline each month | Named for 2 of 5 BOFU prompts in ChatGPT this month, up from 0 | Peec AI or Otterly, GA4, your CRM | Ongoing |

### Step 1: Find the Prompts Your Buyers Ask AI

The prompts that matter for B2B SaaS AEO are the full questions your buyers type into ChatGPT or Perplexity when they’re choosing a tool, so start by writing them down.

People don’t type “CRM software” into ChatGPT. They ask something like “what’s the best CRM for a 10-person sales team that already uses HubSpot for marketing?”, and what they get back is a shortlist.

Here’s what a prompt list looks like for a CRM competing with Pipedrive:

| Prompt | Funnel stage | Page that should answer it |
|---------------------------------------------|--------------|-----------------------------|
| “what is a sales pipeline in a CRM” | TOFU | Guide |
| “how to sync my CRM with HubSpot marketing” | MOFU | Integration page |
| “best CRM for a 10‑person sales team” | BOFU | Category or comparison page |
| “pipedrive alternatives for agencies” | BOFU | Alternatives page |
| “pipedrive pricing for 10 users” | BOFU | Pricing page |

Write most of them as category questions without your brand in them, because in our data 88.2% of AI sessions came from people who weren’t asking about a brand yet. These are the best places to find them.

#### Your Own Conversations

Start with sales calls, support tickets and G2 reviews, the same sources you’d use for [SEO keyword research for SaaS](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/how-to-do-saas-seo-keyword-research/). The way a prospect describes their problem on a call is usually pretty close to how they’d ask ChatGPT about it.

#### Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

Search Console helps in two ways. Long, informational queries, and ones that refer back to options like “the second one” or “the latter”, usually come from someone asking a follow-up in AI Overviews or AI Mode. And the Performance report now has a Generative AI view, which shows the pages getting impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Here’s that view for one of the sites we work on, with the page URLs blurred. The pages at the top are the ones Google already shows in its AI features, so the questions they answer are a good place to start your list.

![Google Search Console Performance report, Generative AI features view, listing top pages by impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode over the last 28 days, with page URLs blurred](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-gsc-generative-ai.webp)

Bing Webmaster Tools has something similar in its AI Performance report, which shows how often your pages get cited in Microsoft Copilot, Bing’s AI answers and some of Microsoft’s partners. The useful part for your prompt list is the Grounding Queries tab, which shows the searches Copilot ran when it pulled your pages into an answer, so it’s about as close as you’ll get to seeing what people actually asked.

#### Google Autocomplete

Type the start of a buyer question into Google and you’ll see how people actually finish it, like the industries and team types below that are each worth a prompt of their own.

![Google autocomplete suggestions for “best crm for small”, including small business, nonprofits, construction business, service business and consulting business](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-autocomplete.webp)

#### AI Visibility Tools

Some trackers, like Profound’s prompt volumes, show what people are actually asking AI tools in your category. I’d use that data to add prompts you hadn’t thought of, even if you treat the tools’ visibility scores as estimates.

### Step 2: Check What AI Says About You Today

Before changing anything, run a quick [AI search visibility audit](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/ai-search-visibility-audit/): put your prompts through ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google, and write down who gets named and which sources get cited, because that’s the baseline you’ll measure against.

#### Run Your Prompts in Each AI Tool

Use a fresh chat or a logged-out window where you can, since answers change with chat history and location. For each prompt, note three things in a sheet:

- whether you’re mentioned at all
- which competitors are mentioned
- which pages or sites the answer cites

Here’s what that looks like for “best CRM for a 10-person sales team”. Google names Pipedrive and HubSpot first, and the sources on the right are a CRM vendor’s blog post, a listicle and a YouTube review, and none of those three come from the brands it recommends.

![Google AI Overview for “best crm for a 10 person sales team” listing Pipedrive and HubSpot Sales Hub with best-for, why-it-fits and drawback notes, and a sources panel citing TwiLead, FlowQi and a YouTube video](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-ai-overview-crm.webp)

The cited sources are the most useful part. If the same G2 category page, Reddit thread or listicle keeps showing up next to your competitors, that’s where you need to be as well.

#### Find Your AI Traffic in GA4

GA4 now gives AI traffic its own “AI Assistant” channel in the traffic acquisition report, so you can see AI sessions and the conversions that come from them without setting anything up.

Here’s what that looks like in the traffic acquisition report for one of the sites we work on, with AI Assistant in its own row, boxed, between organic and paid search.

![GA4 traffic acquisition report by session primary channel group, showing an AI Assistant row with 151 sessions, 89 engaged sessions and a 58.94% engagement rate alongside Direct, Organic Search, Paid Search and Referral](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-ga4-ai-assistant.webp)

### Step 3: Let AI Crawlers In and Make Pages Readable

AI tools can only cite pages they can reach and read, so check that your robots.txt lets their crawlers in, that your main content is in the HTML, and that your key pages carry schema.

#### robots.txt

First, make sure you aren’t [blocking AI crawlers](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/how-to-get-crawled-by-ai-bots/) like GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot by accident. Here’s how monday.com does it, with its first three blocks side by side: it names ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot, and only blocks a short list of paths like test pages, paid landing pages and search results, so the product and blog pages stay open to them.

![The first three blocks of monday.com’s robots.txt shown side by side, with rules for the ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot user agents that disallow only a short list of paths such as /cdn-cgi/, /test/, /lp/ and search parameters](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-robots-txt.webp)

#### Content in the HTML

A lot of AI crawlers don’t run JavaScript, so pricing tables, feature lists and FAQs that only load through scripts may never get seen. To check, open “View page source” on the page and search for a sentence you can see on screen. If it’s not in there, the crawler probably can’t see it either.

#### Schema

Put Organization schema on the homepage, SoftwareApplication or Product on product and pricing pages, FAQPage where you have real questions and answers, and Article with a named author on blog posts. Google says no special schema is needed for its AI features, so treat it as ordinary SEO hygiene that also helps AI tools confirm who you are and what you sell.

You can check what Google reads with its [Rich Results Test](https://search.google.com/test/rich-results). Close’s pricing page, for example, comes back with valid Product, Breadcrumb and Organization markup.

### Step 4: Write Answer-First Pages for Buyer Questions

AI tools quote pages that answer the question in their first lines, so put a short, direct answer under every heading, and start with the bottom-of-the-funnel pages your buyers’ prompts point to.

When an AI tool picks a sentence to cite, the page that answers in its first sentence beats the page that builds up to the answer over four paragraphs. So under each H2, write a 40 to 60 word answer that makes sense on its own, then explain.

Here’s the content structure of an AEO-ready B2B SaaS page:

- **A question-style heading:** written the way a buyer would ask it.
- **A direct answer right under it:** 40 to 60 words that hold up without the rest of the page.
- **A table or list:** for comparisons, pricing, features or steps, since AI tools lift these cleanly.
- **Real facts:** your actual pricing, limits and integrations, stated plainly.
- **An FAQ section:** built from the questions your buyers ask, with FAQPage schema.
- **A visible updated date:** that matches the dateModified in your schema, so AI tools that browse can tell the page is current.

Here’s what that looks like when it works. TwiLead, a small CRM company, has a post called “Best CRM for a 10-Person Sales Team (2026)”, and Google’s AI Overview for that search lists it as the first source. In the Pipedrive part of the answer, the trade-off line cites TwiLead.

![Google AI Overview for “best crm for a 10 person sales team” with TwiLead’s post as the first source, and Pipedrive’s trade-off line, “Lacks native heavy marketing automation”, carrying a TwiLead citation](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-aio-cites-twilead.webp)

And here’s the section on TwiLead’s page it comes from. It says what Pipedrive is built for in the first sentence and what’s missing straight after, in plain words an AI tool can lift without rewriting much.

![TwiLead’s Pipedrive section, with “Pipedrive is built for one thing: managing your sales pipeline visually” and “But here’s the catch: Pipedrive is not an all-in-one”, which notes that email automation needs add-ons](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-twilead-paragraph.webp)

Then decide which pages to fix first. In our data, AI sessions leaned slightly more toward bottom-of-the-funnel pages than organic ones, and we’ve seen it with clients too. One healthcare software client had a sudden jump in AI visits landing straight on its referral-management, patient-engagement and appointment-scheduling software pages.

So start with your [comparison pages](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/how-to-write-saas-comparison-pages-for-seo/), [alternatives pages](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/how-to-write-saas-alternatives-pages/), pricing page and integration pages, because those are what AI tools pull from when a buyer asks for a shortlist.

And if you have your own data, publish it. Original numbers give AI tools a reason to cite you as the source, since nobody else can repeat them without pointing back to you, which is why we published our AI SEO statistics from the 53-brand study.

### Step 5: Build Consensus Across the Sites AI Trusts

AI tools trust what several independent sites agree on, so make sure your product is listed, reviewed and described the same way on G2, Capterra, Reddit, listicles, partner pages and, where you qualify, Wikipedia.

We’ve seen how much this matters for ourselves. PipeRocket showed up in a Google AI Overview without the answer citing our website at all, because it pulled from a Reddit thread where a founder asked about SaaS SEO agencies and someone recommended us.

You’ll see the same thing in software searches. Search “is HubSpot worth it for a small business” and the very first line of Google’s AI Overview cites a Reddit thread from r/CRMSoftware, which also sits at the top of the sources, ahead of YouTube reviews and blog posts.

![Google AI Overview for “is hubspot worth it for a small business”, with its opening sentence citing a Reddit thread from r/CRMSoftware and that thread listed as the first source](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-aio-reddit-hubspot.webp)

It’s not only Reddit either. In this version of the AI Overview for “best CRM for a 10-person sales team”, the first four sources are a Reddit thread, a vendor’s listicle, G2’s CRM category page and a YouTube review, and the lines about Pipedrive and HubSpot cite the Reddit thread and G2. Those are all places a brand can get itself mentioned.

![Google AI Overview for “best crm for a 10 person sales team”, with a Reddit r/SaaS thread, TwiLead’s listicle and G2’s best CRM software page boxed in the sources panel, and the Pipedrive and HubSpot lines citing Reddit and G2](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-ai-overview-sources.webp)

These are the places worth working on:

- **Review sites:** a complete G2 and Capterra profile with recent, specific reviews.
- **Listicles and roundups:** the “best \[category] software” pages that AI answers keep citing.
- **Reddit and communities:** genuine answers in threads where buyers ask for recommendations.
- **Partner and integration pages:** your listing on the marketplaces of the tools you integrate with.
- **Wikipedia:** in our study of AI answers for competitive B2B queries, Wikipedia showed up in more than 60% of citations, which is why we started getting clients listed there once they meet Wikipedia’s notability rules.

Getting into those listicles and roundups is the same outreach work as [SaaS link building](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/saas-link-building/), except here the mention matters even when there’s no link, since AI tools read [brand mentions](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/brand-mentions-seo/) whether or not they point back to you.

Pipedrive’s Wikipedia page is a good example of what AI tools can check you against, with the founding year, headquarters, owner, industry and services all in the box on the right.

![Pipedrive’s Wikipedia page with the infobox boxed, showing it was founded in 2010 in Tallinn, Estonia, is headquartered in New York City, is majority-owned by Vista Equity Partners, and lists its industry as Software as a Service with sales management and CRM services](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-wikipedia-infobox.webp)

Wherever you’re listed, use the same product name, category, pricing tiers and core use cases. When G2 says one thing and your site says another, AI tools have to guess, and they’ll either leave you out or describe you wrong.

### Step 6: Measure AI Visibility and Pipeline

Measure AEO for SaaS with three things: how often AI tools mention you for your prompts, how many sessions and conversions come from AI in GA4, and how much pipeline those sessions touch in your CRM.

| Metric | Where to find it | What good looks like |
|---------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Share of voice for your prompts | Peec AI, Otterly or a monthly manual check | You’re named for more of your BOFU prompts each month |
| AI sessions and conversions | GA4 AI Assistant channel | Rising sessions, with demo or trial conversions you can see |
| AI‑assisted pipeline | Your CRM, with first touch or a “how did you hear about us” field | Deals where AI shows up somewhere in the journey |
| AI Overview impressions | Search Console | Impressions growing on your BOFU queries |
| AI citations in Copilot | Bing Webmaster Tools, AI Performance report | More citations, and more grounding queries that match your BOFU prompts |
| Branded search | Search Console | More people searching your brand after seeing you in AI answers |

If you’re doing the share-of-voice check by hand, a sheet is enough. We’ve put together an [AEO prompt tracker template](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19egMA4nPw9RpOj3cgDwvatO-unih8DfGQaSzLUKvaBI/edit) you can copy, with one row per prompt, one column per AI tool, and space to note who got named and which sources got cited instead of you. Once a month’s results are in, the [AI share of voice calculator](https://piperocket.digital/tools/ai-share-of-voice-calculator/) turns those counts into a share of voice and shows your gap to whoever gets named most.

![AEO Prompt Tracker template in Google Sheets, Monthly Check tab, with five example CRM buyer prompts marked Named or No for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview and Claude, who was named instead, the sources cited, and a Named in total row](https://piperocket.digital/images/blog-screenshots/ai-search-optimization-for-saas-prompt-tracker.webp)

Re-run your prompt list once a month, keeping the prompts and the way you run them the same, so the changes come from your work instead of a different test. When you report it, an [AEO reporting dashboard](https://piperocket.digital/blogs/aeo-performance-metrics-reporting-dashboard/) with the six rows above is enough for most leadership teams.

## How Long Does AEO Take for SaaS?

Like with SEO, there’s no set time frame for when AEO for SaaS will start working, because it depends on how much authority and how many mentions on other sites you already have.

So set yourself a goal instead, like showing up in ChatGPT for “best CRM for a 10-person sales team” in the next month, and put your effort into the steps above for that prompt, or increasing your AI share of voice by 10%.

The teams that see results soonest already have an organic foundation, because they aren’t building authority from zero at the same time.

## Why Isn’t Your SaaS Content Getting Cited by AI?

When AEO for SaaS isn’t working, it’s usually for one of three reasons: the team is chasing a visibility score, the SEO foundation is weak, or the reviews and mentions behind the brand aren’t genuine.

### You’re Optimizing for a Score Instead of Real Signals

A visibility score feels like progress because it moves, but it’s based on the tracker’s own prompts, run its own way, so you can push it up without a single extra buyer seeing you. Teams end up rewriting pages to please the dashboard while their G2 profile stays thin and nobody’s working on the listicles AI keeps citing. Use the score as one directional input, and put the real effort into the consensus work and the GA4 and CRM numbers in the measuring step.

### Your SEO Foundation Is Weak

AI tools lean on the same signals Google does to decide who’s credible, like authority, clear structure and mentions on other sites. If your pages don’t rank and nobody links to or talks about you, there’s very little for an AI tool to pick up, however well the pages are formatted. So fixing the SEO underneath is usually the fastest way to start getting cited.

### Your Reviews and Mentions Aren’t Genuine

Fake reviews, spun copy and swapping listicle mentions with other vendors can look like a shortcut. AI tools and the sites they trust are getting better at spotting it, and a mention that only exists because two companies traded spots doesn’t hold up when an AI tool checks it against other sources. Ask real customers for specific reviews that describe the problem you solved, in their words, and earn your place on the roundups that matter.

## How PipeRocket Does AEO for SaaS

We run [AEO alongside SEO for B2B SaaS companies](https://piperocket.digital/saas-seo-agency/ai-seo-services/), starting with the questions your buyers ask and the sites AI tools trust in your category. If you’d like to know where you stand, [we’ll run your buyers’ prompts and show you who AI recommends instead of you](https://piperocket.digital/contact-us/).

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is AEO for SaaS?

AEO for SaaS is the practice of structuring a software company’s content, product facts and third-party presence so AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews cite and recommend the product when buyers ask questions.

### How do you do AEO for SaaS companies step by step?

Step by step, find the prompts your buyers ask AI tools, check what those tools say about you today, let AI crawlers in and make your pages readable, write answer-first pages starting with your bottom-of-the-funnel pages, get your product described the same way on the sites AI trusts, and measure mentions, AI sessions and pipeline every month.

### Is AEO replacing SEO for SaaS companies?

No. In our data from 53 B2B SaaS brands, organic search sent 91.3% of traffic and 37 times more leads than all AI engines combined, so AEO for SaaS works best as a layer on top of SEO that uses mostly the same signals.

### Is GEO the same as AEO?

Mostly, yes. GEO usually means getting named in answers from generative tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, and AEO started out meaning Google’s answer boxes, but for a SaaS company the work is nearly the same, with schema leaning more toward Google and off-site mentions leaning more toward the generative tools.

### How do you track AEO for a SaaS brand?

Track AEO for a SaaS brand with a monthly check of your buyer prompts in each AI tool, a GA4 channel group for AI referral sessions and conversions, and a CRM field that shows where deals first heard about you. Treat AI visibility scores from trackers as estimates, since they run their own prompts.

### Should you hire an AEO agency for SaaS?

You don’t need an agency to start AEO for SaaS, since the prompt list, baseline and technical checks can be done in-house, but if you need outreach for reviews and listicles at scale, look at the [AEO agencies](https://piperocket.digital/list/best-aeo-agency/) that mainly work with SaaS companies and can show you citations they’ve earned for clients.
